Interlibrary Loan Service Guide

A guide to using interlibrary loan, ship-to-home, and ILLiad.

Using ILLiad

ILLiad is the system used by SCAD Libraries to process Interlibrary Loan. To place a request for Interlibrary Loan Borrowing you must create an ILLiad account.

Before placing a request in ILLiad

Before submitting a request in ILLiad please:

  • Make sure your library account is free of fines and overdue library materials.
  • Check SCAD Libraries' online catalog to determine if the item is currently owned by a SCAD location the U.S. (Savannah and Atlanta).
    • For ebooks, books, and book chapters, you should first check SCAD Libraries Classic Catalog tab.
    • For articles, before submitting a request do a Journal Title Search first for electronic journals and print journals in the SCAD Libraries catalog.
  • Books in SCAD Libraries - Atlanta and Jen Library- Savannah can be shared.  Please see information about requesting books from another SCAD campus library via Intra-SCAD loan.

Explanation of ILLiad statuses

ILLiad uses request statuses to track the various stages a request is in as it moves through the process.  By logging into ILLiad, you can check the status of your requests. See the list below to see what a specific request status means.

Awaiting Conditional Request Processing

Your ILL request has been sent to a lending library, but the lender has requested that we meet their conditions or inform us of their policies prior to shipping the item.

Awaiting Customer Contact

This requested item has arrived and has been processed by Interlibrary Loan staff, but we have not yet contacted the customer to inform him/her that the item has arrived

Awaiting Delivery Notification

Your item has arrived but is currently being processed for pick up from your campus library.

Awaiting Request Processing

This requested item has been submitted by the customer and has gone through the copyright clearance process, if necessary. It is now ready to be searched and requested from potential lenders.

Awaiting Unfilled Processing

Your ILL request has been sent to a lending library, but the lender has denied our request.

Cancelled By Interlibrary Loan Staff

This request has been cancelled by Interlibrary Loan staff. The reason for this cancellation may be found in your Interlibrary Loan account by clicking on the “View/Resubmit Cancelled Requests” button and looking at the detailed information for the cancelled item.
Note: If one of your requests is cancelled we immediately send you an e-mail message explaining why the item was cancelled.

Customer Notified via E-Mail

The requested item has arrived, has been processed by the ILL staff, and you have been notified via e-mail that the material is ready to be picked up from your campus library with 24 hours.

Delivered to Web

The requested article has arrived, and has been posted to the customer’s personal Interlibrary Loan account page. It may be viewed in ILLiad by clicking on the button labeled “View/Download Electronically Received Articles”.

Loans Recalled From the Patron

You have material checked out from Interlibrary Loan that the owning Library wants it back.

Request Finished

The entire request process has been completed successfully.
 

Request In Processing

This request is being processed at this moment.

Request Sent

This request has been placed with potential suppliers and Interlibrary Loan is waiting for the item to be shipped by a lender.

Why do I need a username and password to use ILLiad?

Your username and password allows you to have secure access to information about your requests. It also enables you view and download articles you requested, and to edit your personal information such as your address or phone number.

What if I forget my password?

If you forget your password, do not create a new account, you can reset your account on ILLiad's site. You will receive an email with a link to change your password.

What should I put for the "Not Wanted After" date?

You are not required to put anything (the default is 30 days), but if you do, please pick a date that gives us time to fill the request, taking into account shipping and processing. The ILLiad system automatically cancels requests after the date passes.

Tip: if your paper is due next week and you can’t use the article after that, put the date your assignment is due.  Keep in mind, once an item is shipped it cannot be canceled.
